Educators

What Educators Can Do

You are on the front lines of the effort to train tomorrow’s citizens and leaders.
  • Stress to your students that taking challenging courses now, especially in math and science, will give them more choices in the future.
  • Connect with teachers of other disciplines to cross-pollinate your lessons and student work.
  • Explore becoming a National Board Certified Teacher.

Stress that a rigorous education matters.

Here are some links that are useful in preparing curriculum:
  • Biology Corner is a resource site for biology and science teachers. The lesson plans section contains classroom activities, labs and worksheets.
  • MathNEXUS is a Whatcom- and Skagit-County-based partnership dedicated to jointly increasing mathematics achievement levels for all students.
  • Teacher Planet features over 250 theme based resource pages for teachers and school fundraisers.
  • Transition Math Project (TMP) is designed to help students successfully progress from high school math to college-level math. TMP identified the math skills and knowledge high school graduates need to complete college-level work, meet minimum admission requirements and avoid remediation upon enrolling in college.
  • Washington State Leadership and Assistance for Science Education Reform is working to assist school districts with implementing an ongoing, inquiry-based science program that is founded on a research-based model of systemic reform and aligned with Washington State Science Grade Level Expectations.
