The following organizations and initiatives have led the way in research, projects, outreach and promoting the College & Work Ready Agenda goals:
Achieve
Achieve, Inc., is a bipartisan, non-profit organization that helps
states raise academic standards, improve assessments and strengthen
accountability to prepare all young people for postsecondary education,
work and citizenship. Through the American Diploma Project,
Achieve has developed benchmark standards that describe the specific
math and English skills high school graduates must have if they are to
succeed in postsecondary education and high-performance jobs. Achieve
works with states to incorporate these expectations in state standards
and assessments for high schools. In addition, Achieve has developed
grade-level math standards for kindergarten through grade 8 and has launched an online business leaders toolkit.
Business Partnership for Early Learning (BPEL)
BPEL is a coalition of
King County business leaders stepping forward to invest in an
innovative, research-based early learning strategy as a way to close
the school preparedness gap. We do this through home visitors
providing pre-literacy and parenting programs for two years to families
with toddlers who most need help.
College Success Foundation
The College Success Foundation (CSF) provides college scholarships and
mentoring to low-income, high-potential students. Currently, the CSF's
top priority is the successful implementation of the Washington State
Achievers Program. However, it has also partnered with individuals and
organizations to fund and administer the Costco Scholarship, the
Chateau Ste. Michelle Scholarship, the Governors Scholarship, and the
Leadership 1000 Scholarship program. It has also established an
endowment fund, the income from which aims to allow economically
disadvantaged students to realize their full career potential.
Washington State MESA (Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement)
In MESA, African-American, Native American, Latino and female students
prepare for college in mathematics, engineering, and science, beginning
in elementary school, and continuing through high school. MESA supports
students, teachers, and parents with innovative, hands-on programs and
opportunities. With a proven track record of success, MESA is a
partnership that brings leaders from higher education and business into
the classroom to engage K-12 students in the careers of the future.
Thrive by Five
Thrive by Five Washington, its partners and its grantees will promote
community-based, market-driven solutions that will expand access to
early learning opportunities for all our state's children. Thrive by
Five Washington will provide support and information to parents and
caregivers while working to ensure that all children from birth to age
five have access to excellent, affordable early learning, whether at
home with a parent or caregiver, in child care or in a preschool.
Transition Mathematics Project
The Transition Mathematics Project (TMP) is a collaborative project of
K-12 schools, community and technical colleges and baccalaureate
institutions. Designed to help students successfully progress from high
school math to college-level math, TMP has identified the math skills
and knowledge high school graduates need to complete college-level
work, meet minimum admission requirements and avoid remediation upon
enrolling in college.
University of Washington TechTransfer
The University of Washington TechTransfer facilitates the
commercialization of new innovations arising from University of
Washington research through managing and licensing intellectual
property rights. It has become a vital resource for the University of
Washington and one of the top technology transfer organizations in the
country. Over the past two decades UW TechTransfer has helped
facilitate remarkable changes in how the University interacts with
industry and inspire tremendous interest in the creation and deployment
of intellectual property arising in the course of University research.
Washington State LASER (Leadership and Assistance for Science Education Reform)
Washington State LASER is public-private partnership that is part of
the National Science Resource Center's (NSRC) LASER Center.
Washington’s program is centered on the use of NSRC's Strategic
Planning Institute, which helps school districts implement an ongoing,
inquiry-based science program that is founded on a research-based model
of systemic reform and aligned with the Washington State Science Grade
Level Expectations.
Washington State University Office of Research
The Office of Research helps provide oversight to a number of the
University’s research Centers, which the University realizes play an
important role in our society. The University's research Centers
constantly change to reflect society's critical issues, and serve as a
resource to encourage interdisciplinary teaching, research, and
resource sharing. They also serve as places for the University and
private industry to interact.
